چکیده

Music neurotechnology is a new research area emerging at the crossroads of neurobiology, engineering sciences and music. Examples of ongoing research into this new area include the development of brain-computer interfaces to control music systems and systems for automatic classification of sounds informed by the neurobiology of the human auditory apparatus. The authors introduce neurogranular sampling, a new sound synthesis technique based on spiking neuronal networks (SNN). They have implemented a neurogranular sampler using the SNN model developed by Izhikevich, which reproduces the spiking and bursting behavior of known types of cortical neurons. The neurogranular sampler works by taking short segments (or sound grains) from sound files and triggering them when any of the neurons fire. Fig. 1. an example of collective firing behavior. (© eduardo Miranda) neuron numbers are plotted (y-axis) against time (x-axis) for a simulation of 1,000 neurons over a period of 1 second. each dot represents a firing event.

Configuring Spiking Neural Networks for Given Spatio-Temporal Patterns

We developed a general framework to configure a spiking neuronal network so that it can precisely generate a desired spatio-temporal pattern of spikes. The unit of spiking neuronal networks employed here is a leaky integrate-and-fire model. Robustness of configured spiking neuronal network is discussed, which leads us to use some routine methods in linear-programming to solve the set of inequal...

Spiking Patterns of Hodgkin-Huxley Model in Alzheimer’s Disease: Effects Caused by Noise Current

In this paper we study the effect of noise on HH Model. Small-world, regular and random neural networks are the types of HH neuronal networks, which we study in spiking synchronization. External noise and Sub threshold stimulus are subjected to all the neurons. In neuronal membranes we study biophysically realistic HH neurons with intensity of intrinsic noise via voltage gated ion channels. The...

Improving the Izhikevich Model Based on Rat Basolateral Amygdala and Hippocampus Neurons, and Recognizing Their Possible Firing Patterns

Introduction: Identifying the potential firing patterns following different brain regions under normal and abnormal conditions increases our understanding of events at the level of neural interactions in the brain. Furthermore, it is important to be capable of modeling the potential neural activities to build precise artificial neural networks. The Izhikevich model is one of the simplest biolog...

Impacts of clustering on noise-induced spiking regularity in the excitatory neuronal networks of subnetworks

In this paper, we investigate how clustering factors influent spiking regularity of the neuronal network of subnetworks. In order to do so, we fix the averaged coupling probability and the averaged coupling strength, and take the cluster number M, the ratio of intra-connection probability and inter-connection probability R, the ratio of intra-coupling strength and inter-coupling strength S as c...

A reanalysis of “Two types of asynchronous activity in networks of excitatory and inhibitory spiking neurons”

Neuronal activity in the central nervous system varies strongly in time and across neuronal populations. It is a longstanding proposal that such fluctuations generically arise from chaotic network dynamics. Various theoretical studies predict that the rich dynamics of rate models operating in the chaotic regime can subserve circuit computation and learning. Neurons in the brain, however, commun...

Simulation of Spiking Neural Networks on Different Hardware Platforms

Substantial evidence indicates that the time structure of neuronal spike trains is relevant in neuronal signal processing. Bio-inspired spiking neural networks are taking these results into account. Applications of these networks to low vision problems, e.g. segmentation, requires that the simulation of large-scale networks must be performed in a reasonable time. On this basis, we investigated ...
